History
Bradford Bank began in 1903 as The Bradford Loan and Savings Association. The Association met weekly in a second floor in East Baltimore. The first meeting resulted in deposits of $32.00.
In 1915 the flagship office was built at Fayette Street and Luzerne Avenue, which is still in operation today. And as growth continued, with assets of $440,000, Bradford became one of the first associations in Baltimore to Federalize in 1935 providing government-backed insurance for all deposit accounts. The name was changed to Bradford Federal Savings & Loan Association.
In 1964, Bradford built its first branch office in Rodgers Forge, near Towson, Maryland. The three-story building was designed to house a branch office on the first floor and corporate offices above. Additional branch offices were constructed at Jacksonville in northern Baltimore County in 1975, and in Ellicott City in 1976.
During the 1980's and 1990's we remained a growing institution with assets increasing to over $250 million, and became a federal savings bank in 1987.
In June 2002, we officially changed our name from Bradford Federal Savings Bank to Bradford Bank. This change reflected our greater depth of products and services for our customers, coupled with the personal attention to our customers' financial needs that no other bank can offer.
On February 25,2003, Bradford Bank acquired Wyman Park Federal Savings & Loan Association. The acquisition of Wyman Park added two Maryland branch locations, in Lutherville and Glen Burnie, as well as a terrific group of employees who joined the Bradford Bank family.
Bradford Bank celebrated its 100th Anniversary in April 2003. We began our second century dedicated to our remarkable partnership with thousands of loyal customers and the communities we serve. At the end of 2003, Bradford Bank's assets totaled $390 million dollars.
